The Long Beach Neptunes Spearfishing Club is the oldest continuously operating spearfishing club in the World. Established in 1950, with the purpose of fostering a thriving community of ocean enthusiasts. Our goal is to promote safe, sane, sustainable spearfishing. Our Membership has set multiple world records, and continue to be at the forefront of the sport. Based in Long Beach, California, our Members are renowned for their skill, which takes years to develop.
Our Club organizes and hosts the Blue Water Meet, a legendary tournament held annually on Santa Catalina Island. First held in 1963, the Blue Water Meet is the longest consecutively held spearfishing tournament in the world. Strict rules governing location, time, species, along with an invite only format provide an elite level of competition to its participants. Utilizing a single fish by heaviest weight format, our Club promotes selective harvest.
In addition to the Blue Water Meet, our Club also hosts the annual Fall Classic Tournament, first held in 2000. This competition includes three different categories: Largest game fish, largest calico bass, and largest lobster. The boundaries are much larger, allowing for a wider scope of spearfishing opportunities, including inshore, near shore, and offshore hunting.
Our Club holds monthly meetings which take place on the first Wednesday of each month. These meetings are open to the public, and we encourage all divers and their families to come and meet the Club. We have guest speakers, presentations, raffles, and an annual auction that is second to none.
